When people ask Steve Hurst what he’s been doing lately, he likes to say he’s been doing time. The Point Richmond artist means, of course, that he’s been making clocks. His works vary in size, from small desk ornaments to the towering two-sided timepiece that was commissioned for the Point Richmond Marketplace renovation project. Hurst’s handmade, one-of-a-kind clocks rest on the mantles of such celebs as Magic Johnson and Oprah Winfrey. Some of the snazzier models cost upwards of $1,500, but most are priced from $50 to $250.
