Why Come? An immediate hit, this vegan paradise (rare east of the Caldecott) serves huge fresh portions and a few fried delicacies. The giant menu has a distinctive Vietnamese edge, with curries, clay pots, and even pho.

Where is it? 4000 Pimlico Dr. (near Trader Joe’s), Pleasanton, (925) 399-5232, blossomvegans.com.

When is it open? Early lunch through dinner every day.

What’s the atmosphere? A tropical mural sets a nurturing tone in the relaxed yet bustling
dining room.

Which dishes are best? Everything is so fresh, it’s hard to go wrong. We love the green papaya salad and curried eggplant. Do not miss the mu shu–mu shu in Indian flatbread, and anything with peanut sauce. Start with a creamy kale drink (pureed with dates), and wrap it up with the mocha chocolate cake with an ethereal icing.

How much? $7.50–$8 for entrées is typical.
