Why go? Opened next door to Mario’s French Dips, Links ‘N’ Hops serves grilled German frankfurters and Old World–style sausages, with local craft beer on tap.
What’s the vibe like? The narrow café transports you to New York, with brick on one side, a collage of nostalgic hot dog–themed photos on the other, and a Coney Island umbrella over the counter.
What to order? For the traditionalist, a classic frankfurter; for the spice lover, a Cajun hot link; for the red meat–averse, a chicken-apple sausage. Customize your dog from a long list of unlimited toppings, or order “Mario’s Way,” with bacon and a fried egg.
Added bonus: Brews include Schubros and Eight Bridges, and there are intriguing sodas, such as sarsaparilla-esque birch beer and cherry-flavored Cheerwine.
How much? A link with a generous side of fries ranges from $5.75 to $8.25. Upgrade to garlic fries or chili-cheese fries for an extra charge.
Where is it? 2175 First St., Livermore, (925) 292-7603. Lunch and dinner daily.
