Taste

1513 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley, (510) 540-7800, www.tastefinewines.com.

Taste is a wine- and food-lover’s paradise inside the Gourmet Ghetto’s sleek new take-out complex, Epicurious Garden. A $25 “taste card” lets you explore one-ounce pours of top wines from all over the world, selected by wine director Greg Estes and delivered by the Enomatic wine dispensing machine. As you taste, order California cuisine standouts, such as silky foie gras over a crisp waffle and tuna tartare with yuzu citrus and soy gelée. Mark Lusardi, who was named Best Chef by Diablo in 2005, consulted with executive chef Garret Martindale on the menu. One catch: Due to city restrictions, nobody under 21 is allowed beyond the entryway at Taste. That leaves just a few seats at the front where kids can join the party (sans wine, of course). Lunch and dinner daily. Wine only. Outdoor seating. $$$
