Livermore wine maker pairs up with Annika Sorenstam

Published:

When we heard that Livermore winemaker Karl Wente and golfing legend Annika Sorenstam were partnering on a new wine, we had to give it a try. Rather than drinking alone, we called in a few East Bay golf pros for a tasting, to see if the Annika Syrah would qualify for the Masters. Here’s what they said.

►Barret Hendrickson
Head golf pro, Oakhurst Country Club in Clayton: “The first sip tasted a bit sour, but when it opened up, it tasted really good. It’s got a lot of legs. I’d love to pair it with a nice rib eye steak.”

►Monica Shahade
Tournament director and assistant golf pro, Lone Tree Golf Course in Antioch: “It’s a little tangy and very tasty. It goes down like a pure shot on the golf course—that sweet feeling that goes with a well-struck long iron or the excitement of a perfect chip-in.”

►Donny Cook
Assistant golf pro, Discovery Bay Country Club: “Very smooth—tastes like a hole in one on number seven at Pebble Beach.”

Annika 2006 Livermore Valley Syrah, $75, is available in the Wente Vineyards golf shop and at annikavineyards.com.
