Tara’s Organic offers 134 distinct ice creams rotated throughout the year, including beet-balsamic, lavender, rosemary-pear, and lemon verbena. Owner Tara Esperanza “thrives” on bringing an innovative and sustainable sensibility to her Berkeley, Oakland, and—new this summer—downtown Pleasanton ice cream shops.
“I love expanding people’s ice-cream horizons,” says Esperanza. Containers, utensils, and napkins are compostable or recycled, all ingredients are organic, and many of the eclectic flavors seem to be inspired by Berkeley’s myriad community gardens.
