“A Chef’s Journey to Oakland” Dinner Series at The Terrace Room in Oakland

“A Chef’s Journey to Oakland” dinner series at The Terrace Room in Oakland debuts on Friday, September 13 at 6:30 p.m. Chef Eddie Blyden has created an extraordinary event that spans three nights over the next three months and traces his 20+ year career and journey to Oakland by way of West Africa, Germany and the Caribbean.

His September menu reflects his familial ties to Sierra Leone and Africa's deep culinary influence on the world, showcasing dishes that trace West African cuisine to that of the Caribbean and the American South. Blyden was also at one point the Executive Chef for the Rendezvous Bay Hotel in Anguilla. Live music beginning at 6:00 p.m. will be by the James Henry World Music Band known for global percussion with melodic overtones and world grooves of Reggae, Soca, Afro Cuban, Samba Funk and Hip Hop.

Tickets are available via https://www.eventbrite.com/e/a-chefs-journey-to-oakland-west-africa-caribbean-tickets-70569656743 and can be purchased for any individual dinner ($10.00) in the series or for all three ($25.00) and include admission to a live music performance and a complimentary glass of wine, pint of beer or cocktail of the night for each ticket purchased. All other food and beverage menus items will be available a la carte and must be purchased separately.

The second dinner, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 18, will feature a menu of both German and Swiss cuisine paired with beers in the spirit of Oktoberfest and it reflects the time that Chef Blyden spent in Munich, Germany working for Hans Haas at the highly acclaimed Tantris restaurant. Guests will be able to enjoy live music as well during this dining experience.

The final dinner in the series will take place on Friday, November 15 and represent the culmination of Chef’s journey. Previous influences will be reflected in his modern take on Bay Area/California cuisine and there will again be live music.

The glass-enclosed Terrace Room dining room is housed in an historic landmark building (circa 1927) with a distinctive combination of Art Deco and Mediterranean styling that evokes the elegance of a bygone era. Highlights include elaborate wrought-iron pillars that open to breathtaking views of Lake Merritt, a series of murals by a well-known Bay Area artist depicting scenes of the lake and surrounding area, and period light fixtures. This elegant room has long been “the place” to hold lavish weddings, celebrations and private parties, and entertainment greats such as the Count Basie Band have played there.
