Looking for something more imaginative than flowers or chocolate for Valentine’s Day? Buy tickets for you and your beloved and hear the grand expression of love, Siegfried Idyll by Richard Wagner, composed as a birthday gift to his wife after the birth of their son Siegfried in 1869. It was first presented on Christmas morning in 1870 by a small ensemble in a private performance on the stairs of their villa in Switzerland, where she awoke to its opening melody. Later she said “I had neither mother nor father. Richard was everything to me. He is the only one who has given me love.”
The orchestra will also present Mozart’s Horn Concerto No.4, featuring Lacey Waggener; Ravel’s imaginative fairytale pieces, Mother Goose Suite; and close with Champagne’s exhilarating Danse Villageois.
