August 17 & 18, 2pm
The Golden Follies variety show returns to the Firehouse Arts Center in Pleasanton with two big matinees. The sparkling Las Vegas-style dance revue features a huge cast of seasoned performers ages 60-89 from all over Northern California.
"Trip The Light Fantastic!" is this season's hit production. With the trademark lavish costumes, high-energy delivery, stylish choreography, and radiant smiles, the Firehouse run is already close to sold-out.
Kicking off with a celebration of memorable moments through the decades from the 1940's through to the new millennium, the show then heads to the Great White Way for a selection of hi-stepping Broadway classics, including selections from The Pajama Game, Guys and Dolls, Anything Goes, Oklahoma and more.
The Golden Follies co-founders and co-artistic directors Susan Bostwick and Diane Stawicki promise a healthy dose of toe-tapping glitz and glam appropriate for all ages. Popular San Francisco Chanteuse Wiggy Darlington returns for a few numbers.
Professional dancers and sister team Diane and Susan are the dynamic force behind all aspects of the show, including direction, choreography, concept, and costumes. Both have extensive professional dance resumes, having performed throughout the U.S. and Europe, appearing with such artists as Wayne Newton, Robert Goulet, the Pointer Sisters, Rita Moreno, Paul Anka, Jack Jones, Sammy Davis Jr., and Dolly Parton to name just a few.
Troupe members hail from all walks of life. "The majority are retired, having been teachers, real estate agents, medical techs, administrators for the VA and Safeway Corporate, city and county employees, NASA folks and restaurant owners," says Bostwick, naming just a few of the wide variety of backgrounds. "These energetic, enthusiastic and talented seniors are active in their respective communities and committed to the Golden Follies. Besides their dance involvement, they share life experiences, love, and friendship with each other."
