Pack Your Summer With Science
Chabot has several out-of-this-world activities planned for the hot months.
Heading to the Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland? Get the kids ready for blast-off, and check out one of one of these special summer exhibits or events.
Chabot Space & Science Camp (thru August 1):
Your third-to-seventh-grade kids can choose from 13 different hands-on classes, with topics ranging from space science and technology, to art and outdoor activities. They can spend a half day or a full day creating and exploring. Every camper receives a general admission pass to Chabot Space & Science Center and a camp T-shirt. Enrollment closes at 3 p.m. on Fridays for camp sessions that begin the following week.
Take a leisurely 1-3 mile hike through the redwoods under the full moon with an experienced hiker and Chabot educator. Learn all about the nocturnal natural environment, and take a look at what’s happening in the night sky through telescopes. These hikes sell out quickly, so book online or call to reserve a spot ASAP. $12.
Take your kids to see the Chabot staff demonstrate science live. Through August, the 30-minute live science show CurioSCities will take place in the Megadome theater, and will feature the curiosities of color changing reactions. $5.
This one is for you, parents, but your kids are guaranteed to love it, too. Enjoy the beats of your favorite classic rock and pop songs as the rhythms dance in laser light. This 360-degree experience is a fusion of music and science, featuring artists such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, U2, and the Beatles. Your kids may not appreciate the music on the same level as you, but you both will be mesmerized by the brilliant display of color as it reacts to sound. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. $14.
