Celebrate Spring with Plant Sales and Garden Tours

Stunning flowers star in these four early May East Bay garden events.

With May right around the corner, spring is in the air and gardens are in full bloom.  To celebrate this beautiful season, there are several garden tours and events to attend.

 

After judging proceedings at the 48th Annual Mt. Diablo Iris Show & Plant Sale on Saturday, May 2, the event will be open to the public from 1 to 5 p.m. at The First Baptist Church of Walnut Creek.  There will be displays of the various winners and honorable mentions, along with potted irises of different varieties for sale to take home. Moraga Junior Women’s Club present their 6th annual garden tour, Through the Garden Gate, on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tour six different Lamorinda landscapes at the Moraga Commons Park, rain or shine.  Box lunches catered by Whole Foods are available for $10.  Tickets for the tour can be purchased online at www.moragajuniors.org, or at local venues Across the Way, 1480-G Moraga Rd., Moraga; McDonnell Nursery, 196 Moraga Way, Orinda; and Orchard Nursery, 4010 Mt. The Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour celebrates California’s native beauty on Sunday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The self-guided tour offers 50 beautiful Bay Area gardens to choose from and features free talks from garden experts throughout the day.  There are also various gardens that will be selling native plants for donations. The Danville-Alamo American Association of University Women presents their 9th Annual Garden Tour on Friday and Saturday, May 8–9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Enjoy touring eight beautiful gardens located in Danville and Alamo.
