April 2–May 2: Enchanted April
Sometimes life doesn’t go the way we plan. In Center REP’s production of Tony-nominated romantic comedy Enchanted April, four discontented women in 1920s England take a month away from their everyday lives to explore Italy—and rediscover identities, rekindle relationships, and realize life’s possibilities. Lesher Center for the Arts, 1601 Civic Dr., Walnut Creek, $29–$41, (925) 943-7469, centerrep.org.
April 3: Narsai Toast
Uber-foodie Narsai David hosts his 17th and final Narsai Toast—the annual event that has raised more than $4.3 million for Berkeley Repertory Theatre. This year’s Bon Voyage celebration features a five-course dinner by seven celebrity chefs, wine tastings, and an auction with prizes such as lunch with the editor of Gourmet magazine or a backstage tour of Saturday Night Live. The Ritz-Carlton, 600 Stockton St., San Francisco, 5:30 p.m., individual tickets $600, tables $6,000–$25,000, (510) 647-2909, berkeleyrep.org.
April 4: Cinderella Classic & Challenge
This 65- to 95-mile bicycle tour of the Tri-Valley is fun to do—and fun to just watch. More than 2,000 women of all ages don pink wigs, feathery boas, and sparkling fairy wings for a ride through the Amador, Livermore, Diablo, and San Ramon valleys, and proceeds benefit local women’s charities. Begins and ends at the Alameda County Fairgrounds, Gate 12 off Valley Avenue, Pleasanton, check-in 7–9 a.m., $40, (925) 828-5299, valleyspokesmen.org.
April 5: Jim Leher
The Commonwealth Club hosts legendary journalist Jim Leher as part of its East Bay speaker series. Anchor of PBS’ The NewsHour with Jim Leher, moderator of 10 presidential debates, and fiction and nonfiction author, Leher will talk about telling “America’s story,” greet guests, and sign autographs.
