Pleasanton rallies behind family whose home was lost in fire

Pleasanton Middle School is asking the public to help out the Zuffa family, whose home was destroyed by a fire Monday morning, and whose mom is being treated for second- and third-degree burns in a San Francisco hospital burn unit.

The younger of the two Zuffa sons is a seventh-grader at Pleasanton Middle School; the older brother is a student at Amador Valley High school. Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department officials say the family pretty much “lost everything” in the fire, reported the Pleasanton Weekly.  And 40-year-old Deonna "De" Zuffa, the only person home at the time of the fire, was initially listed in critical condition at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley. The Weely says she has since been transferred to St. Francis Burn Center in San Francisco.

Karen Buchanan, the administrative secretary at Pleasanton Middle School, says the school is welcoming donations of cash, gift cards, checks or clothing.  The items can be dropped off at the school between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. through next week. You can also mail the items to the school.  The school’s address is 5001 Case Ave., Pleasanton, 94566. The phone number is (925) 426-4390. Checks should be made out to Pleasanton Middle School in care of the Zuffa family.

The school will also accept clothing donations for the Zuffa dad and sons.  Buchanan says the sizes they need are boys’ size 14 regular pants and men’s pants, sizes 32-32 and 36-34.  As for shirts, the family could use medium-sized boys’ shirts, medium/large-sized men’s shirts, and XXL-sized men’s shirts.
