Thursday is the new Friday. Diablo has not one, but three fantastic event suggestions for Thursday, February 5. I can’t tell you which to choose, but I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. Get out your calendar…
February 5: Truffles, Tidbits, and Wine Tasting
Shopping is fun enough, but add in drinks and nibbles, and—wow—you’re at a whole new level of F-U-N. At Pleasanton’s annual downtown stroll, Livermore vintners pour red and white wines, ports, dessert wines, and champagnes, and participating shops and businesses serve hors d’oeuvres and desserts. Plus, participants get to take home a commemorative wine glass. Main Street (pick up tickets at Washington Mutual at 561 Main St.), Pleasanton, 6–9 p.m., $25–$30, (925) 484-2199, pleasantondowntown.net.
February 5: Fox Theater Grand Opening Gala
It’s no surprise that this week’s hottest Bay Area event is sold-out. Music fans and lovers of Art Deco have been waiting years for the reopening of the Fox Theater Oakland—originally a cinema, now a concert hall. But if you’re dying to get to the red-carpet Grand Opening Gala—featuring food, wine, entertainment, and vintage cars—hurry up and put your name on the wait list! While you wait, check out Diablo’s article on the Fox here. Fox Theater Oakland, 1807 Telegraph, Oakland, 7 p.m., $250, (510) 869-3519, thefoxoakland.com.
February 5–March 7: Rabbit Hole
Town Hall Theatre Company presents David Lindsay-Abaire’s highly acclaimed Rabbit Hole. They play—about a couple whose lives are turned upside-down by an accident, and the unlikely friendships that result—won the 2006 Tony Award for best new play and the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for drama. You won’t want to miss it. Town Hall Theatre, 3535 School St., Lafayette, $18–$32, (925) 283-1557, thtc.org.
February 7–8: Beauty from Darkness
Moving Arts Dance explores the pain of loss and the joy of movement in a collection of works. Beauty from Darkness includes two world premieres by Artistic Director Anandha Ray set to live music by San Francisco–based “string-metal” group Judgement Day, and a Bay Area premiere of Resident Choreographer Michael Lowe’s “Cirque II,” an eerie tale of circus performers. Moving Arts Dance Center, 1281-C Franquette Ave., Concord, $15–$25, (925) 825-8399, movingartsdance.org.
