Danville welcomes home heroic pilot Saturday
Official ceremony for "Sully" will take place on the Town Green at 1:00 pm—Schwarzenegger may attend.
The City of Danville will hold a celebration for Danville resident Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger tomorrow on the Danville Town Green, 400 Front Street at 1:00 pm. Captain Sullenberger made international news headlines as the heroic pilot who performed an emergency landing of flight 1549 into the Hudson River on January 15, 2009, saving the lives of 155 people.
The celebration begins at 12:30 pm with music, followed by the official ceremony at 1:00 pm. Confirmed attendees include Congressman Jerry McNerney, Mayor Newell Arnerich, and of course, Captain Sullenberger. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger may also be in attendance.
Captain Sullenberger was personally thanked for his actions by former President George W. Bush, President Barack Obama, and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who announced that Captain Sullenberger and his crew will receive the “Key to the City.”
Danville Mayor Arnerich stated that Captain Sullenberger is “…an inspiration to all Americans.”
