Ask an astronaut: Shane Kimbrough visits Chabot Space and Science Center
NASA Endeavor astronaut to visit Chabot Space and Science Center on Friday, June 5.
Have you ever wondered what it takes to become an astronaut? Or what astronauts eat in space? And, of course, how do they go to the bathroom? The responses to these burning questions can be answered in person by Astronaut Lt. Col. Robert S. (Shane) Kimbrough on Friday, June 5th, when he visits Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland.
Kimbrough recently flew on NASA’s STS-126 Endeavor last November for 16 days. He performed two space walks, and also helped expand the future living quarters for six astronauts on the International Space Station including a new bathroom, kitchenette, two bedrooms, an exercise machine, and a water recycling system
This Friday morning, Kimbrough discuss the exhibit, Beyond Blastoff: Surviving in Space at 9 a.m. Later in the morning, he will be in Chabot’s full dome planetarium after the viewing of Astronaut. Kimbrough will also visit the Challenger Learning Center, which simulates a NASA Mission Control Center and spacecraft. Parents and kids can both enjoy learning about traveling outer space.
