Evita/Contra Costa Musical Theatre
The weather is warming and the flowers are in bloom. Get out and enjoy Spring—at Girls Night Out in Danville’s Rose Garden, the Goodguys classic car show in Pleasanton, or Livermore's first Barrel Tasting Weekend. Don’t miss these and other great events this week…
March 26: Girls Night Out
Take advantage of some incredible fashion and food offers this Thursday at the Rose Garden: 20 percent off purchases and services at Burke Williams, KRV, Olive, Elisa Wen, Dog Bone Alley, Stella Luna, O’My Sole, Bittersweet, Navlet’s Garden Center, and Danville Baby and Kids. Plus, a special dessert at Esin, a special margarita at Amaranta, and free wine at Amici’s. The Rose Garden, at Sycamore Valley Road and Camino Ramon, Danville, 5–9 p.m.
March 27–April 26: Evita
“Don’t cry for me, Argentina…” Yeah, that will be in your head after seeing Contra Costa Musical Theatre’s production of Evita, the Tony Award–winning musical about Eva Peron. Longtime East Bay director and playwrite Kevin T. Morales returns from New York to stage the show, and San Francisco’s Mindy Lym stars. Lesher Center for the Arts, 1601 Civic Dr., Walnut Creek, $37–$41, (925) 943-7469, tickets: lesherartscenter.org, more info: ccmt.org.
March 28–29: Goodguys All American Get-Together
Bring the whole family to the Bay Area’s longest running classic car show. Drool over more than 3,000 American powered cars, chow down on grilled food, enjoy rock-n-roll music, and check out the three-square-mile swap meet of auto parts and old-fashioned car culture memorabilia. You could even win a 1965 Buick Le Sabre muscle car. Alameda County Fairgrounds, 4501 Pleasanton Ave., Pleasanton, $6–$15, (925) 426-7559, alamedacountyfair.com.
March 28–29: First Annual Barrel Tasting Weekend
Two dozen Livermore Valley wineries offer tastes of their wines still in development—right from the barrel. Armed with official Ridel glasses, guests will receive at least one sample at each winery paired with gourmet appetizers, artisan cheeses, chocolate, and nuts. Plus, they can meet the winemakers and buy "futures" (pre-purchased wine before its bottled and released to the public). At participating Livermore Valley wineries, 12–5 p.m., $20–$25, (925) 447-9463, lvwine.org.
March 29: The Composer is Dead
Lemony Snicket may be the author of A Series of Unfortunate Events, but his partnership with the San Francisco Symphony is most fortunate for parents hoping to introduce their children to classical music. The storyteller takes the audience on a slightly spooky but very fun mystery set to music composed by San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra alum Nathaniel Stookey. Davies Symphony Hall, 201 Van Ness Ave., San Francisco, 2 p.m., $8–$15, (415) 864-6000, sfsymphony.org.
