Singin' in the Rain

The warm weather isn’t quite here to stay just yet. Good thing there are many great indoor events happening in the East Day this week, from the largest rummage sale in Northern California to a stage version of Singin’ in the Rain, to a over-the-top fun Oscar Party. Here are your Top Tickets…

March 4–28: ADAS Spring Art Show
Check out what East Bay artists have been up to at the Alamo Danville Artists Society’s annual Spring Art Show. More than 100 creatives will exhibit their recent work in media ranging from paintings to sculptures to jewelry. A public reception will be held March 6 at 5 p.m.  Blackhawk Gallery, 3461 Blackhawk Plaza Cir., Danville, free, adas4art.org.

March 6–7: White Elephant Sale
It’s the biggest rummage sale in Northern California, and proceeds support exhibits and programs at the Oakland Museum of California. Shop your heart out in 17 different “departments,” including sporting goods, art, furniture, and vintage clothing. Free shuttle service is available from the Fruitvale BART station.  White Elephant Sale Warehouse, 333 Lancaster St., Oakland, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. free, (510) 536-6800, whiteelephantsale.org.

March 6–21: Singin’ In the Rain
Berkeley Playhouse presents an all-access stage version of the beloved musical about Hollywood’s transition from silent films to “talkies.” Designed to look and feel like a soundstage, the set allows the audience see everything, from scene changes to how illusions such as the famous rain scene are created.  Julia Morgan Center for the Arts, 2640 College Ave., Berkeley, $19–$28, (510) 665-5565, berkeleyplayhouse.org.

March 7: Free Wildlife Museum Day
Here’s your chance to get up close and personal with more than 50 species of wild animals—for free!  The Lindsay Wildlife Museum welcomes guests throughout the day to see hawks, snakes, and bobcats, and to learn how they are cared for when they are unable to return to the wild.  Lindsay Wildlife Museum, 1931 First Ave., Walnut Creek, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., free, (925) 935-1878, wildlife-museum.org.

March 7: Oscar Party
Be a celebrity for an evening at Vine Cinema’s Oscar Party. You’ll stroll the red carpet, take photos in the lobby, grab a gift bag, and then enjoy champagne and cupcakes while you watch the Academy Awards on the big screen. Plus, if you pick the most winners, you’ll score a $100 Vine Cinema gift card.  Vine Cinema, 1722 First St., Livermore, 4 p.m., $15, (925) 447-2546, vinecinema.com.
