Enjoy Dinner and Dancing in Jack London Square

Dancing Under the Stars offers free dance lessons combined with price-fixe menus at surrounding restaurants on Friday nights.

If you’ve been enjoying the recent “dance craze” that’s been saturating pop culture with everything from celebrity ballroom competitions to hip-hop love stories, then you’re in for a treat at Oakland’s Jack London Square. “Dancing Under the Stars” comes to Jack London every Friday through July 3rd—an event that offers free dance classes to anyone and everyone who wants to learn. Students will be able to choose from a wide variety of dances to learn, including Salsa, the Waltz, the Tango, Swing, and more courtesy of Linden Street Dance Studio.

“Years ago, a night on the town meant dinner and dancing,” said Jim Ellis, managing principal of Ellis Partners LLC, the developers of Jack London Square. “We’re delighted to continue that grand tradition by offering free dance lessons to the local community. The Oakland waterfront and the warm nights will provide the perfect setting for a romantic evening out.”

Much like dancing, Oakland has recently received a makeover for the new generation, converting its warehouses to trendy lofts, building eco-friendly apartments and opening chic new restaurants. Events like “Dancing Under the Stars” let the community see the new additions to the city, as well as the cultured, historical side of Oakland with landmarks such as the birthplace of Jack London and “Heinold’s First and Last Chance Saloon”, as well as many fine restaurants just steps away.

Dancers who have worked up an appetite can partake in any one of the pre-fixe menus being offered by restaurants such as Scott’s Seafood, Miss Pearl’s Jam House, Kincaid’s and more. Menus will change each week and vary with seasonal ingredients.

Even though it takes two to tango, singles and couples are welcome alike, so whether you want to Swing, Salsa or do the Hustle, put on your dancing shoes, get ready to Rumba, and dance the night away.
