Alviso Adobe Community Park opens in Pleasanton

Pleasanton has stepped back into time with its recent completion of the seven-acre Alviso Adobe Community Park.  The park, which opens this Saturday, has been constructed specifically to illustrate the history of California, not to mention show off California’s hottest-known accessory – adobe.  The park begins its Grand Opening on Saturday at 10:00am until 4:00pm and will have bird walks hosted by the Ohlone Audubon Society, authentic Californios music and dance, tours, lectures, and games and crafts happening all day.

The site has been transformed into an historical, interpretive park, with a section that features a recreation of the Meadowlark Dairy Milking Barn and Bunk House as well as a Native American grinding rock.  Feel free to bring the kids for storytelling events held in their small amphitheater.  Probably the coolest part, though, is sampling a little bit of old culture by engaging in the activities of the past – creating adobe blocks, churning butter, weaving baskets, and just taking in the ancient Heritage oak trees that are still growing strong.
