Diablo’s can’t-miss events of the coming week: Disney On Ice presents Princess Classics, Berkeley Symphony’s season opener, Sarah Vowell in San Ramon, Lamorinda open studios, and Chesley Sullenberger at Rakestraw Books.

As the rain rolls in, the events head indoors, with an ice-skating spectacular, a symphony performance, two incredible authors, and a tour of art studios in Lamorinda. Here are your Top Tickets…

October 14–18: Disney On Ice
Cinderella, Jasmine, Ariel, Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Mulan, and Snow White all don skates in the “Princess Classics” version of Disney On Ice. If you have a young daughter, take her—she’ll be enchanted by the romantic choreography, glowing costumes, and three-story revolving castle. October 15: Berkeley Symphony Orchestra
The Berkeley Symphony Orchestra opens its season—the first with new music director Joana Carneiro—with The Chairman Dances by John Adams, the West Coast premiere of Peregrinos by Gabriela Lena Frank, and Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra. October 17: Sarah Vowell
The Danville and San Ramon libraries host this year’s CityRead author, Sarah Vowell. Regular contributor to radio program This American Life and author of Assassination Vacation, Vowell will delight with a humorous and fun-filled ride through American history. More than 30 artists from Lafayette, Moraga, and Orinda participate in LAA’s annual open studios. Print a map from the event website, and then view (or purchase) work ranging from landscape paintings to welded iron sculptures to abstract photographs. October 19: Chesley Sullenberger
Want to meet a real-life hero? Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, the Hero of the Hudson, will be in his hometown to read from his new book, Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters, answer your questions, and sign autographs.
