Center Repertory Company
Center REPertory Company kicks off 2016 on the most buoyant of notes with its production of the romantic comedy classic, Born Yesterday. This hilarious play, packed with political satire and sex appeal, is just as timely today as it was when Born Yesterday made its Broadway debut in 1946.
Playwright Garson Kanin’s story follows unscrupulous businessman Harry Brock, as he visits Washington, D.C. to try to bribe a member of the U.S. Congress to pass legistation that would benefit Brock’s business. Hilarity ensues when Brock’s showgirl mistress, Billie Dawn, realizes how corrupt her boyfriend is, and fouls up his plans. Actress Judy Holiday received raves as Billie Dawn in the original Broadway run, then won an Oscar for the role in the 1950 movie.
Center REP’s production brings back acclaimed director Timothy Near, and will feature Sharon Rietkirk as Billie Dawn and Will Springhorn as Harry Brock.
The film Born Yesterday was remade in 1993, featuring Melanie Griffith, Don Johnson, and John Goodman.
