Award-winning Actor Colin Farrell to Deliver Keynote Address at “The Power of Possibilities” Event

Recognizing the achievements of people with special needs and disabilities

Actor Colin Farrell will deliver the keynote address at Gatepath’s annual Power of Possibilities recognition event on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at the San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront in Burlingame, CA. As a parent of a child with special needs, Farrell has a personal connection to Gatepath’s mission of creating a world where people of all abilities are fully accepted, respected and included.  At this memorable event, you will be inspired by Farrell’s story and the stories of people with developmental disabilities who have made extraordinary achievements and accomplishments when given the opportunity to reach for their dreams.

Farrell, who has a 13-year-old son diagnosed with Angelman syndrome, will share his insights and journey as a parent in a heart-warming conversation moderated by esteemed Bay Area news anchor and journalist Diane Dwyer. The accomplished Irish-born actor won a Golden Globe for his role in “In Bruges” and is celebrating a Globe nomination for “The Lobster”.

“As the parent of a child with special needs, I have learned that disability is often imposed upon a person. Yet what one person deems a disability, another person deems a challenge and, most importantly, an opportunity to show the strength and deep reserve of the human spirit,” Farrell said. “Raising a son with special needs gives me a new perspective on living and thriving with disabilities.”

Gatepath is celebrating 96 years of serving children, youth and adults with special needs and developmental disabilities in the Bay Area and providing support to families.
