Pleasanton Hotel Closing

Longtime Tri-Valley restaurant to close doors after 25 years

We’ve seen more restaurants than usual closing their doors. We’ve lost Movida in Livermore, Mono in Oakland, and Strings in Walnut Creek to name a few. It’s always disappointing when a business closes. You can’t help but think of the people who will lose their jobs.

I’m especially sad that the Pleasanton Hotel will close after its New Year’s Eve celebration. This Victorian era restaurant has been a part of Pleasanton’s charming and historic downtown for 25 years. I never did have the good fortune to eat dinner there. I always just swung by after hours to listen and dance to the jazz and blues bands on the patio. It was always a great time under the magnolia tree.

If you get a chance, there are a few more good times to be had before the restaurant locks its doors for good. There are special holiday events: Christmas Eve with Santa dinner, Christmas Day Champagne buffet and New Year's Eve festivities. The restaurant will serve buffet weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. This Friday night the menu features a Maine Lobster and Steak Feast for $39.00 per person.

Plus, there’s still dancing, starting at 9 p.m. On Friday it’s the 2nd Story Band and on Saturday its rockabilly with Dave Crimmen. The Pleasanton Hotel is at 855 Main Street; call (925) 846-8106 for reservations, pleasantonhotel.com.

What a bummer. It wasn't the best restaurant in town, but we would take my grandmother here for her birthday each year and always had a good, fun meal. I hope another restauranteur will scoop up the place and transform it...

I loved the Pleasanton Hotel as well but to be totally honest the last few times we went there to eat I noticed an odor about the place and my suspicion is that they have a "mold" problem. It just smells musty and it is very old after all. That may be one of the reasons they said it would take millions to fix it up.
