Diablo Dish: Bowling, Donuts and Bread

Bowling heads to Sunvalley; Dunkin Donuts opening; Boudin’s is back; and more

Bowling and Fun in Sunvalley

Round 1 Entertainment is bringing family fun to Sunvalley Mall in Concord. Moving into the former Sports Authority location, this 52,000-square-foot space will feature eleven bowling lanes, four private karaoke rooms and endless arcade games including one-of-a kind machines only found in Japan.

Fun-seekers will also have access to ping pong, billiards, and darts as well as wine and snacks. Private parties will also be available and word is that a few have already been requested before doors even open.

Round 1 Bowling and Amusement will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. and is looking at a late August opening.

Stay tuned.

Dunkin Donuts

Dunkin’ Donuts Moves In

Dunkin’ Donuts is scheduled to open next Wednesday, June 22, in Walnut Creek. It is opening in the former Taco Bell Space in the Newell Avenue strip mall.

In addition to airy donuts, the chain sells a variety of bakery items, including cookies, muffins and brownies. It also sells breakfast sandwiches, bagels and croissant lunch sandwiches. And is popular for its coffee drinks – hot, cold and frozen.

This is Dunkin’ Donuts first Bay Area location, but that won’t be the case for long as franchisee owner Matt Cobo is under contract to open 12 Dunkin’ Donuts in Contra Costa county.

I’ll be first in line for iced coffee.

Boudin’s is Back

Get ready sourdough lovers!

San Francisco’s Boudin Bakery & Café is set to reopen next Thursday, June 23, in Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek. Broadway Plaza has been under renovation for two years, and its final leg — Broadway Lane, the pedestrian-only street between Nordstrom and Macy’s, is just finished. The soon-to-be opened Boudin’s will be serving alcohol in addition to its salads, soups, pizzas, sandwiches, and burgers.

Sauvignon and sourdough sounds good to us.

Farm Creek Brewing Company

Farm Creek Brewing Update

Family owned Farm Creek Brewing Company has been busy at work converting its Walnut Creek location into both a beer factory and showroom. If all brews well, you can anticipate it to open the first week of July.

Once the business opens, patrons can visit on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Patrons can bring in their own food when they visit Farm Creek. The brewery is on Pine Street, surrounded by Kinders, MiCasa, Miraku and Tullios to name a few. Tables, benches and chairs are set up for guests to sip and dine.

Almanac to Open End of June

Hammers are swinging at Almanac in Danville. The former Amber Bistro location is under final renovation as it prepares to open Almanac. Executive Chef Tim Humphrey is at the helm developing a California inspired farm-to-table menu. Humphrey most recently worked at the Lodge at Tiburon.

Anticipate doors to open the last week of June. More to come!

Pizza Pack-Up

Dish recently reported that Broadway Plaza staple, California Pizza Kitchen, will be closing down and reopening in the new retail and housing development, Agora on Main, across from Corner’s Tavern. The complex will also have a Kona Grill, an Asian influenced fast-casual restaurant with sushi and cocktails.

Just two weeks remain to grab a nibble in the old spot. Doors are scheduled to close on or around June 24 and the new spot will open Tuesday, June 28.

Oakland Welcomes Agave Uptown

Doors opened in Oakland’s Uptown district on June 27th for Agave Uptown. In developing the menu and decor, Executive Chef Octavio Diaz draws on his Mexican background, having grown up near Oaxaca.

With a strong focus on mole, menu highlights include Cecina, dried strips of beef or pork marinated in adobo with black bean paste and rice as well as a variety of dishes and savory entrees featuring rotisserie chicken.

Enjoy lunch, dinner, and a raw bar menu seven days a week.

Yalla Mediterranean

Deals for a Warrior at Yalla

If watching the Dubs in the finals has you snacking away during the game, you’re in luck.

Yalla Mediterranean is offering a special buy one get one offer for any wrap, salad, or plate between 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, in honor of finals game six.

The catch? You must be wearing Golden State Warriors gear. Easy. Who doesn’t have Warriors gear at this point? I’ve been zipping around with a car flag for months.

Dubs and a meal deal. The perfect combo to wrap up the season with a win.

Dads at The Counter

Celebrate Father’s Day at The Counter with a great deal for dad. BFD stands for Burger for Dad, and on June 19 all Dads will receive a free burger on Father’s Day when accompanied with a paying guest.

A burger and kids saving money? It’s a dad’s dream come true.
