Cheap Eats: Wente (yes, Wente)

The high-end Restaurant at Wente to start budget-friendly, family-style dinners on Thursday nights.

We know that when you'r thinking about a cheap meal, The Restaurant at Wente Vineyards isn't the first place that springs to mind. But lately, this multiple-time Diablo Food Award-winner has been offering more creative, wallet-friendly packages, including their Sunday Supper meals (two-couse dinner for $29 and three-course for $37) unveiled earlier this year.

Starting this week, Wente will be offering a Thursday Nights at the Table dinner. These weekly meals feature a three-course dinner that is shared, family-style, among diners at a communal table. The fixed menu will change weekly and costs $39 per person including wine, and $29 without wine, plus tax and tip.

And before you start thinking that Wente has gone all Eastern-bloc on us, Senior Vice President of Hospitality Christine Wente explains that the communal dinner concept is an extension of the family-owned winery's philosophy of sharing its food and drink with friends, family, and the community. "Sharing the vineyard table has been an underlying theme since our opening more than 20 years ago."

Thursdays at the Table dinners start Thursday, October 22. Meals begin promptly at 7 p.m. For reservations, call The Restaurant at (925) 456-2450.
