No More Cabin Fever

A few choice deals to help you finally hit the slopes.

We’ve finally gotten a couple of storms, and just in time for Presidents Day weekend. Here’s what’s new and fun for you and your family for the holiday.

NORTH SHORE

SQUAW VALLEY is known not only for the stunning panoramas, but now for also having the world’s first ski-in/ski-out Starbucks. This one-of-a-kind coffee shop is located on the mountain at 8,000 feet at the Gold Coast mid-mountain complex. Through tomorrow, you can purchase the Tahoe Super 2 deal, which gets you two days of skiing, with no blackout dates, at Squaw or Alpine, for $98.

ALPINE MEADOWS will celebrate new snow and Mardi Gras with the Après Ski Party, featuring funk rock band Headphone Union, from 2 p.m.–5 p.m. on Saturday. $5 Hurricanes are sure to keep the party going.

NORTHSTAR sign up for First Tracks this Saturday (48-hour reservation required, but sources tell us it’s not too late). Guides will lead guests along Tahoe Zephyr Express to the top of Backside and Lookout Mountain. There’s also the option of a snowshoe stargazing tour on Friday night, starting at 5 p.m., for $50.

Sugar Bowl will keep in place its normal regular season lift ticket rates over the holiday weekend; season passholders with a holiday blackout can take advantage of a special offer of $39 for adult tickets, $33 for young adults/seniors, and $10 for children. And CORE daily and season passholders can bring a friend for just $15, through February 26.

SOUTH SHORE

KIRKWOOD MOUNTAIN RESORT offers two new perks for skiers this season: First, real-time weather updates are now available on their website; second, debuting at the end of this weekend is the Steezbag 50, a permanent airbag feature (and the first of its kind on the South Shore) that will allow terrain park skiers and snowboarders to practice new tricks with its soft powder landing feature.

HEAVENLY MOUNTAIN RESORT has 2,400 acres open. While it may be too late for this weekend, for the rest of the season the best way to score low prices is to book your trip to this popular resort a week in advance online.

And a little something for your pooch…

The Fourth Annual Black Tie & Tails Gala, which benefits the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe, will take place this Saturday from 5:30-11 p.m. at the Ritz-Carlton (Lake Tahoe). Bring your dog to this red carpet event, featuring a silent auction and champagne reception.
