Free Walnut Creek Trolley Extends Hours for the Holidays

Take advantage of a free ride on Walnut Creek's Downtown Trolley with extended hours through the holidays.

Andrew M. Smith

Everyone knows that parking and driving in downtown Walnut Creek is a nightmare, especially this time of year. Living close to town, my solution to traffic is often the free Downtown Trolley. By now you’ve seen it, the cable-car styled green trolley reminding you that "It's Free." But, have you considered riding it?

The trolley loops daily around Walnut Creek, down California and Locust streets to Kaiser Hospital, through Broadway Plaza, and up Main street to the BART station. Running every 15 minutes, it can easily take you from Broadway Plaza to Target in less than 10 minutes. It's convenient and runs frequently, plus it saves the headache of dealing with downtown traffic.

Through December 31st, the trolley’s hours have been extended until 10pm. It’s the perfect solution if you’re out in Walnut Creek for last-minute shopping, or plan on hitting New Year’s sales. And if you’re battling the weather, save your soles and give your umbrella a break by hopping on for a free ride.

To ride the County Connection's Free Downtown Trolley, look out for the green and yellow “Free Ride” sign around downtown Walnut Creek. A schedule for the trolley’s Route 104 can be found here. The trolley's extended holiday service is sponsored by the Merchants at Broadway Plaza.
