What's in Store: Shopping for 2014
The beginning of the year brings store closures, store openings, new items, and post-holiday sales.
There’s no better time to reinvent yourself than the new year. January brings store closures, openings, new items, and post-holiday sales. So, head on out and help stores clean off their shelves, while also cultivating a fabulous new look for 2014.
The impending Broadway Plaza construction continues to bring more store closures. Among the stores that are soon-to-be-gone are Coldwater Creek, Hallmark, Decors de France, and Diva Diva. Luckily, you can find Coldwater Creek and Hallmark at Stoneridge; Decors de France, which carries home décor and bath products such as French soaps, will move to downtown Walnut Creek in early February; and Diva Diva, my favorite place to score an inexpensive dress, has reported they will likely open a store at Stoneridge or Sun Valley. La Soie Bridal, which has locations in Sacramento and Southern California, has opened a location in Walnut Creek. Perfect timing to go shopping for that late summer or fall wedding! Find them at Cypress and N. Broadway.
Livermore has a new place for you to get your nails done: Tips & Toes Nail Spa just opened in downtown Livermore. Find them at 2026 First Street. They are open seven days a week, and also offer services such as facials.
Niquea D., a whimsical store containing jewelry, accessories, and home décor, is having a semi-annual sale. Check them out on Danville’s East Prospect Avenue. For more information on the downtown shopping hub, click here.
Now through January 5, visit Eileen Fisher for 25 percent off already-reduced merchandise. These savings are also happening online, so no need to get out of those cozy PJs.
Let’s hear it for the boys: The Nordstrom Half –Yearly Sale for Men is going on now through January 6. Find everything from shoes and athletic wear to the perfect pair of blue jeans at a discount.
Victoria’s Secret will start their Semi-Annual Sale in-store January 2. Did you spot something during the fashion show that caught your eye? These items may not yet be on sale, but snag discounted bras and some gorgeous panties to balance out the splurge.
Aside from Victoria’s Secret and Nordstrom, Broadway Plaza and Stoneridge have plenty more to offer. White House Black Market, Juicy Couture (I scored a bracelet and necklace for $25-$30 each), Lane Bryant, Chico’s, and Swarovski are all offering deals. Check out mall homepages to learn more.
Prim Boutique in downtown Pleasanton has gotten some fantastic pieces that will help with the transition between winter and spring. A colorful or beaded tunic can easily be layered with tights and boots, or worn solo with strappy wedges (as the weather allows). Through Friday, they are also having a sale. Items will range from 20 percent to half off.
