J. Hilburn takes the guesswork out of menswear, with at-home measurements, individual consultations, and ridiculously cheap price points.

Next time you need a suit, make an appointment with J. Hilburn, let them do all the work, and save a ton of cash. First, Danville-based consultant Leslie Rowland—one of J. Hilburn’s 2,000 trained stylists—arrives with fabrics, plus measuring tools and a fit guide. Next, she takes ten non-invasive measurements and inputs them into a computer, where they’ll be stored for your next order. Once your sizing is in, you select the suit fabric, which comes from the same Italian mills as Burberry, meaning you get up-to-date options and in-season styles. Four to six weeks later your suit arrives, 100-percent satisfaction guaranteed. The best part? No one can tell it cost 30-percent less than the typical jacket-and-pant combo.
While J. Hilburn’s service has obvious appeal for busy professionals and shoppers intimidated by the department store suit process, it also caters to clients with hard-to-fit body types, ranging from broad chests to long legs. Measurements can be tweaked by the half-inch, and trousers are made-to-measure, instead of coming with the typical six-inch drop. “Guys don’t have to guess if something’s going to fit,” says Rowland. “It really changes their whole demeanor.” Style consultants like Rowland also help clients navigate the murky world of fashion, listening to each guy’s lifestyle and suggesting looks that are current without being overly trendy.
But J. Hilburn’s real value lies in its ability to cut out the middleman and offer high-quality suits for seriously slashed prices. With little overhead, the company can offer suits ranging from $520 to $850, a steal when suits upwards of $1,000 are the norm. And this price cut shows, not in the construction, but in the wearers’ attitudes. “J. Hilburn makes luxury affordable,” says Rowland. “It really makes them feel special.”
Initial appointments run around an hour, and you can add tweaks to suits like contrasting lining for no additional fee, regardless of fabric. Rowland has received most of her business via word-of-mouth raves, but you can also search for a nearby associate on J. Hilburn’s website and call for an appointment. Nice article Leslie. One correction is that there is no fee for choosing contrasting lining in a suit. There is a $15 fee for contrasting fabric on a custom shirt however. That's a great article. As a fairly new style consultant with J. Hilburn, I am amazed at the response my clients are having to this service.
