Last-Minute Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

Alrighty, boys and girls, I am here to save the day and help you get something a little outside the box for your sweetie!

If you want to have some social time while you shop, hit up an event. On February 13, L’Occitane in Broadway Plaza is having a pre-valentines day party-enjoy a special gift with a $49 purchase, hand massages, and refreshments.

Ladies, are you looking for something to give your guy? He won’t turn down beer-in any form. Schubros Brewery in San Ramon has created chocolate-scented beer soap for Valentine’s Day. Score some on Thursday and Friday from 5-9 p.m.

Looking for a more sexy gift? Specialtees in Lafayette is your place. Grab some Hanky Panky lace thongs in pink and red, starting at $22. Want something cute that will last and is practical? Pick up a BKR reusable water bottle with a heart on the front.

Courtesy of LireilleAnd, of course, there are some jewelry suggestions. Lireille in Oakland has hand-formed heart pendants by Monica Schmid. These copper, silver, and gold hearts range from $175-$260, and no two necklaces are exactly alike. Tangleweeds Hamdmade Jewelry of Oakland is offering 25 percent off until EOD Friday through their Etsy shop. Simply use the coupon code “valentine” at checkout.

Wardrobe for Opportunity is also offering a discount-30 percent off everything with code “vday2014”.

A New Way to Organize

When I open my purse, I am greeted with a plethora of wadded-up receipts. Where did I put that one for the dress I need to return? How much did I spend on that necklace again? Good luck finding one from over a month ago, too. The ZipLoop app allows you to easily upload your receipts and keep them consolidated virtually in your phone. You can then search back through time, or type in something like “Nordstrom” and see all of your receipts from there. No need to use a scanner; simply take a picture of your receipt and hit upload. Genius!

Fresh off the Runway

Spring and fall bring fashion shows to the major hubs, like New York, Paris, London, and Milan. Shows will be going on in New York the rest of the week, but so far, several trends and items have emerged for Fall 2014:

  • Menswear for women, but with a girly twist.
  • Clothing that is tailored, but not skintight. Oversized items are also a go.
  • Metallics.
  • Wrap dresses (happy 40th anniversary to Diane Von Furstenberg on this one).
  • Americana and Wild West inspirations (think fringe and equestrian-inspired boots).
  • Plaids.
  • Mid-length to floor-length skirts, dresses, and gowns.
  • Color-blocking.
  • Geometric prints.
  • Fashionable outerwear.
  • Leather.
  • Fur.

Also, a huge shout out to Sherri of McMullen who is in NYC for fashion week- she was spotted in Marie Claire magazine!
