In Season: Michael Stars
Rock the Runway Fashion Show in Walnut Creek offers up-close look at Michael Stars new fall line.
A few lucky ladies got an up close and personal look at Michael Stars’ new fall pieces at the recent Rock the Runway Fashion Show in Walnut Creek, benefiting Wardrobe for Opportunity.
With an unapologetic love of oversized knits and knack for layers, I’ve pulled my favorite looks straight from the runway to you. And I added a cheat sheet for what’s working this fall.
Sparkle & Shine:
Don’t reserve sequined tops and metallic prints for dimly lit clubs or holiday soirees. The sequin stripe cropped cardigan (1) can be dressed down with jeans and a solid tank, and a shimmery off the shoulder dolman (2) becomes day appropriate by adding a knee-length black pencil skirt.
Sport a New Hue:
Fans of classic Michael Stars styles can pick up staples in exciting new colors for fall. Jewel tones like the rich garnet and deep purple gypsy evoke autumn, and a long-sleeved turtleneck mini in a punchy, shimmery turquoise will turn heads (right). Fans of more subdued shades can turn to pieces in the olive green camo and blackish brown java.
New Fits and Fabrics:
An ombre marl shawl vest (1) or cable fisherman knit hooded poncho (2) add extra warmth without bulk, whether paired with a skirt and bare legs or leggings and flats. As temperatures continue to dip, turn to the twill anorak with knit lining (3). Its jacket and hooded sweatshirt combination is both stylish and functional. Don’t forget to pick up a striped cashmere sweater with elbow patches (4) for an on-trend take on a familiar shape.
Not to be Missed Newcomers:
While the Walnut Creek boutique primarily carries Michael Stars pieces, this holiday season it will be adding Rich & Skinny Jeans to its racks. Pick up a pair of the unique stretch denim brand’s skinnies (left) in a bold rust shade to add a pop of color and some fitted balance to a comfy, neutral hoody.
Drape With Jewels:
To finish off a look, reach for Chan Luu wrap bracelets or tribal leather and bead necklaces from Vanessa Mooney. Dogeared’s popular karma, mantra, and wishbone necklaces have been spotted on the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Selena Gomez, and model Irina Shayk.
