Homecoming Style Tips for Teens

Teen fashion blogger Zoe Grenville scoured Walnut Creek stores for the most fashionable and wallet-friendly Homecoming dance finds.

Gusty winds, color-changing trees, and falling leaves can only mean one thing: fall is here, and homecoming seasons is upon us! Every girl wants to make a statement at her school’s homecoming dance. Fortunately, for those of us in the East Bay, this is both an easy and affordable feat. In order to put together a variety of looks fit for every style and bank account, I scoped out some Walnut Creek stores. With these tips, all you’ll need to do is pop on some lip gloss and get ready to dance!

Tip 1: Wear something you can move around in

Remember, your priority is to have a blast. You won’t have to forfeit comfort for style in this pearl-embellished denim vest from Georgiou, which I paired with an elastic gold dress. The dress brings out the beads in the vest, creating a glam look that is guaranteed to be one-of-a-kind.

Tip 2: Dare to be different

You don’t have to wear a shimmery frock to stand out. This striped dress from Norf London combines an elegant shape with a fun print for a look that is sure to turn heads. Up the retro feel of the stripes with Clubmaster sunglasses, and finish off the look with black wedges and a glittery bracelet. Or, go for a more unexpected look, with a checkered peplum top and lacy skirt. A matching fedora pulls the outfit together.

Tip 3: Embrace your wild side

An edgy look featuring bold animal prints or leather screams confidence. Counter an elegant brocade dress with an offbeat leather jacket for a punk vibe. Leather and animal prints also go well together; a leopard-print dress and leather jacket serve as the perfect balance between edgy and chic. Want a sweeter look? Pair a leopard-print tank top with a matching clutch and chunky bracelets for an ensemble with bite.

Tip 4: Try a glamorous approach

Bold sequins will make you shimmer amidst a sea of dark dresses. Go for a classic look with this semi-bedazzled Norf London dress, which I neutralized with a silver ring clutch. Norf London is renowned for its daring pieces; emanate your own High Street vibe with a scaly silver dress, which I paired with a sparkly Union Jack clutch. I balanced the two statement pieces by refraining from wearing jewelry, and donning simple black wedges.

Tip 5: Make a difference

The perfect dress can make any girl feel special, so why should underprivileged teens in foster care be denied this experience for their homecomings? After you enjoy your dress, another girl can, too. What’s Mine is Yours is a nonprofit organization that donates “gently loved clothing” to girls between the ages of twelve and seventeen. Homecoming attire (or any other form of clothing, other than undergarments and socks) can be donated. Clothing donations can be dropped off at in Walnut Creek or San Ramon:

The office of Marci Shakelton and New Concept Staffing, Inc., 190 N. Wiget Lane, suite 190, Walnut Creek OR The office of Colleen O'Brien, 3223 Crow Canyon Road, suite 150, San Ramon.

Have a fabulous time!
