Open Road with Doug McConnell airs Monday nights on PBS

You can also catch this fantastic travel and outdoors show on OpenRoad.tv.

My writing here has been sporadic lately, in large part because my colleagues and I have been working around the clock to fund, design, produce, launch and promote our new Public Television series. We're calling it, OpenRoad with Doug McConnell:  Exploring the West.
I'm happy to say that on April 6th the new show hit the air locally on our presenting station, KQED. Though our prime broadcast time on KQED will be 7:30 Monday evenings, each week's show will air multiple times on KQED and its sister stations, KTEH in San Jose and KQET in Monterey. If you'd like to watch, just check their program listings for broadcast times or come directly to our website, www.OpenRoad.TV, to see the shows online and to check out other related stories and useful links. We hope you like it all and that you pass along to us your own tales of travel in the Bay Area, California and the West......from Alaska to Mexico and the High Plains to Hawaii. Nice neighborhood we live in.
I apologize for this shameless self-promotion and promise to keep it to an absolute minimum in the future....but I just thought you might be interested in knowing about our latest efforts.   KQED has been wonderful to work with. It will now work with American Public Television to distribute the OpenRoad series to Public Television stations throughout the West and elsewhere in the nation while we continue knocking on doors to raise more sponsorship support so we can keep adding episodes and growing the series.
It's been a challenge to get this far in this tough economy, but my terrific team and I would like to continue the kind of storytelling we were fortunate to do for so long on Bay Area Backroads and other series and specials. We have to thank our founding sponsors, Kaiser Permanente, the East Bay Regional Park District and Lake County....and some generous individuals for believing in us and giving us a shot.
The other piece to this is our desire to continue playing a role on air, online and in other ways to promote the conservation and preservation of our vulnerable natural and historic heritage in the West. We inherited a beautiful region and we'd like to leave it better than we found it. We've always believed that if we come to truly know and love the world around us, we'll be more likely to seek its protection for future generations.  If our series inspires that kind of affection, even a little, we'll consider it a success.
Now, for the moment, it's back to work. Enjoy the spring!
