Where to Go With a Little Dough

Most of us in these uncertain economic times are watching our pennies pretty closely. I know I am. I've got to keep a close eye on what I spend, but I don't want to go into a cave and hide until things get better. I may have to scale back my adventures, but I want to continue exploring, having new experiences, meeting new people, learning new things and having fun. I want to keep living.  So I've got to figure out where to go with a little dough.

Funny, that's the name of a one-hour special I'm co-hosting with Mary Babbitt of "In Wine Country."  Our special, "Where to Go with a Little Dough," will be broadcast on NBC Bay Area after the Superbowl on Sunday evening, February 1.  Watch the game, and then we'll have a show full of tips about where to go in the Bay Area while spending $50 or less a day.

The Bay Area is a prime destination for travelers from throughout the nation and the world, and yet its our own backyard.  We don't have to fly to get here.  Just jump in the car, or take a bus, a ferry, BART or a bike, and you can be somewhere interesting and affordable.

For example, Mary and I and our crew had a terrific time a few days ago grabbing a coffee at the Ferry Building, walking along the rejuvenated Embarcadero, climbing four of the San Francisco's famous hills, seeing great views, admiring the Depression era murals in Coit Tower, visiting the Cable Car Museum, riding a few cable cars, and enjoying food and drink in North Beach and Chinatown. All for less than 30 bucks each.

So where to go for a little dough in these uneasy times? There's no place like home sweet home.

Happy holidays.

I caught it at the tail end as well. What a great show! Go to: http://www.nbcbayarea.com/station/as_seen_on/Niles_to_Sunol_RGB_Bay_Area.html to see the Niles to Sunol show and others as well. If you can't get it to come up go to NBCbayarea.com.

Enjoy!

For the segments that aired on NBC go to, www.nbcbayarea.com type in “where to go” in the search cue, click GO, then click on the coin. The video for each adventure is there and there is a document on the left that shows all the places that were visited!

What I caught was great. Any planned date for re-airing the whole special so I can set the DVR?
