Top Tickets: April 2–8

Diablo’s can’t-miss events of the coming week: Oakland A’s vs. Seattle Mariners, a John Denver tribute in Pleasanton, Easter egg hunts, and Niles Canyon steam trains.

Niles Canyon Railway steam trains

With the upcoming holiday, it’s an unusually quiet week in the East Bay—unless you’re a fan of baseball, American music, or steam trains!  Here are this week’s Top Tickets…

April 6: Oakland A’s home opener
Our home team had a solid pre-season run, so we’re looking forward to seeing what they can do in the regular season. The A’s take on the Seattle Mariners for the first home game. O.Co Coliseum, 7000 Coliseum Way, Oakland, 7 p.m., prices vary, (877) 493-2255, oakland.athletics.mlb.com.

April 6–7: John Denver Tribute
Ted Vigil is a John Denver doppelgänger—from his look to his sound. So, it makes sense that he’d tour the country performing the late American singer-songwriter’s classic hits. Prepare to be taken back to the 1970s, if only for a night. Firehouse Arts Center, 4444 Railroad Ave., 8 p.m., $12–$30, (925) 931-4848, firehousearts.org.

April 7: Easter events
Grab the kids—and some baskets—and get your egg hunt on at one of the East Bay’s city-sponsored events, featuring treats, entertainment, and a visit from the Easter Bunny. We've complied event information here.

April 7–8: Steam Trains
History buffs and steam punk enthusiasts will enjoy the Niles Canyon Railway’s special steam trains: four restored historic locomotives that runs on select weekends between Sunol and Fremont through picturesque Niles Canyon. Depart from Sunol Depot; 6 Kilkare Rd.; Sunol; 11:15 a.m., 1:20 p.m., or 2:25 p.m.; $7–$12; (925) 862-9063, ncry.com.
