Pete's weekend movie roundup: Sonoma International Film Festival, classics on the big screen
Bruce Willis in Wine Country. An American in Paris. And more than one version of the Odd Couple.
From Sonoma International Film Festival
This weekend is the Sonoma International Film Festival, which is always a lot of fun. Lots of cool short, feature and documentary films. Recently remarried movie star Bruce Willis will be honored at a special event on Saturday night.
Oakland is going to be hopping tonight with its Art Murmur happenings at galleries and bars. The Paramount Theatre's film classics series continues tonight with the Best Picture-winning An American In Paris, starring Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron, and a bunch of beautiful Gershwin tunes. Tickets are only $5—and look for my friend Kristin Werner as the Deco-Win girl, spinning the prize wheel before the show.
The Alameda Theatres classic series has the Jack Lemmon-Walter Matthau movie version of Neil Simon's The Odd Couple on April 8-9. I'm actually partial to the TV version, with Tony Randall and Jack Klugman as Felix and Oscar, which has recently been released on dvd, but the movie has two of the funniest lines I've ever heard. Meanwhile, the Town Hall Theatre in Lafayette is doing a female version of the original Simon play.
