Legendary family pizza parlor closes doors after 46 years

I'm really sorry to be posting this one, but it's an essential Pete's Popcorn....er, pizza, Pick for this weekend. One of my all-time favorite spots in Walnut Creek, Pinky's Pizza, is closing after 46 years in the same location. Or, nearly the same location...I believe the original spot was a little closer to California Blvd., but raised and moved back 20 feet or so, way back in the 1960s. I remember Pinky's colorful owner Tom Beisham telling me that one time. Tom would know, he's worked there since he was 16 and has owned the place for 30+ years. Tom and his staff have always been super friendly and efficient, which is why Pinky's has had a legion of regulars. It's also kind of the last corner of the small town Walnut Creek I grew up in. So its really sad to say good bye to a friend, Pinky's has been my favorite pizza parlor since I started going there in the mid-80s, as a high school student. (So has my good friend Ted, who has been known to drive the 5 up from LA to cure Pinky's cravings. Ted is dividing his time mourning, and ordering stacks of Pinky's pizzas to freeze—to try and get through the winter.)

Pinky's closes for good at the end of the day on August 31. If you'd like one last pizza, might I recommend calling your order in early—925.932.2728—the place will be packed with faithful customers all weekend. I'll be the one playing Ms. Pac Man in the corner. Thanks for the memories, Pinky's—we'll miss you!
