Free Movie: TOOTSIE
Our Classic Film Series kicks off its 2016 run with this cross-dressing comedy masterpiece from 1982
Our first movie in the monthly Classic Film Series at the Orinda Theatre is a comedy classic from 1982.
Tootsie, starring Dustin Hoffman, Jessica Lange, Teri Garr, and Bill Murray, was a massive hit during its original release. The film received a whopping 10 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Director, Actor, Screenplay, Cinematography, and two for Supporting Actress. Unfortunately, Tootsie only took home one Oscar (Jessica Lange), as the epic Gandhi was the Academy's favorite that year.
I revisited Tootsie recently and was amazed at how well it holds up, thanks to its hilarious screenplay and an unforgettable comic performance by Dustin Hoffman. It is going to be a treat to share this one with East Bay film lovers, as a comedy as funny as Tootsie deserves to be seen in a crowded theater.
The film screens on Thursday, January 14 at 7 p.m. at the Orinda Theatre. These free screenings always bring out a big crowd, so please arrive early to find parking and best available seating. As always, each Classic Film Screening begins with a trivia contest, with specialty cupcake prizes donated by our friends at Republic of Cake.
See you at the movies!
