Free Movie: Back to the Future
Michael J. Fox's sci-fi comedy classic screens for free on January 9 at the Orinda Theatre
Nothing like some last-second plate-spinning to start off the New Year.
The folks at the Orinda Theatre and I had planned to screen Ghostbusters as our first classic movie of 2014, until a rep from the studio called at the last minute to say we could not show that film. (I think the film's 30th anniversary might have something to do with the last-minute cancellation, but whatever. We're no longer showing Ghostbusters.)
We got on the phone with Universal, and secured a print of the 1985 smash, Back to the Future—an equally family-friendly film from the same sci-fi comedy genre. And, unquestionably a classic. We had planned to show Back to the Future in June (now be on the lookout for The Goonies), so, big thanks to the folks who made the switcharoo possible.
Our FREE screening of Back to the Future takes place on Thursday, January 9 at 7 p.m. at the Orinda Theatre. Bring the whole family! (And, arrive early, as seating is first come, first served. As always, our friends at Republic of Cake will be making some delicious cupcakes which I will give away as prizes to trivia questions before the film.
So, film lovers—where we're going, we don't need roads! See you at the movies!
