Mel Brooks' classic comedy, featuring the late, great Gene Wilder, screens January 12 at the Orinda Theatre. Then, legendary actress Piper Laurie visits the Orinda on January 14 for screenings of CARRIE and THE HUSTLER.

Our first free movie of 2017 is a spectacular comedy from 1974—Young Frankenstein, director Mel Brooks' hilarious tribute to the Universal horror classics of the 1930s.

We picked Young Frankenstein when we heard of the passing of the film's beloved leading man, the late, great Gene Wilder. Wilder is simply wonderful in the role of Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, a descendant of the infamous Victor Frankenstein. Madeline Kahn, Marty Feldman, Cloris Leachman, Teri Garr, Gene Hackman, and Peter Boyle also shine in the film.

If you have never seen Young Frankenstein, you won't want to miss this special screening, as the film plays best with a big audience. The movie starts at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 12 at the Orinda Theatre. Seating is first come, first served so make sure to arrive early to find a parking space and the seat you want.

There's even more classic movie fun at the Orinda Theatre this weekend when three-time Oscar-nominee Piper Laurie visits for screenings of a pair of her greatest films. At 5 p.m., the Orinda will show the fabulous Brian DePalma thriller Carrie, and at 8 p.m. they'll show the great Paul Newman drama The Hustler. Piper Laurie will appear for a Q&A session following each film. Tickets are available here: PIPER LAURIE IN ORINDA.

See you at the movies!
