Concord hairstylist on Bravo TV's "Shear Genius"
Beauty Boutique owner Nekisa Addis has made it halfway through the stylist smackdown
If you're watching TV tonight, make sure to tune into Bravo's series, Shear Genius. Concord salon owner Nekisa Addis is one of the 12 stylists from across the country cast in this reality show, which is essentially Project: Runway for hairstylists (In fact, Genius follows Runway at 10 p.m.) Addis is the only East Bay playa in the stylist smackdown, which is hosted by Jaclyn Smith of Charlie's Angels fame. In fact, tonight's episode has a Charlie's Angels theme, and Kate Jackson makes a guest appearance. Get ready for feathered flashbacks to the late 1970s!
Addis wasn't at liberty to let me know how she did on the show. "I have not even told my mom and dad," she says with a laugh. She's getting noticed in public, although the pop-in business at her Concord Beauty Boutique hasn't really changed. "They said I was in Hayward on the show!" says Addis, whose salon is in the same Olivera Crossings shopping center as her mother's dry cleaning business. Addis did move to Hayward recently with her new husband, and loves to head home each Wednesday to watch herself on Shear Genius. "We were filmed for so long, that you forget you're on camera. It's really interesting to see what they choose to show and what they edit out." She hosts a party each Wednesday for her friends to watch. "Tonight we're having sushi—and LOTS of wine," she says, with a laugh.
Shear Genius is on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on Bravo (channel 48 on many cable systems). Addis's salon is the Beauty Boutique, 3375 Port Chicago Highway No. 15, (925) 969-9399, www.nnnbeautyboutique.com.
