Free Movie: STAND BY ME
Nostalgic drama screens July 14 at the Orinda Theatre
Our July movie in the Classic Film Series is a sentimental favorite.
I went to see STAND BY ME on opening night at the Pleasant Hill Dome in August of 1986, and, like everyone in the audience, was extremely moved by the film's unique tone. I'm excited to revisit the film thirty years later as part of our free series at the Orinda Theatre.
STAND BY ME was the third movie directed by Rob Reiner (his debut film is one of my all-time favorites, THIS IS SPINAL TAP). Based on the Short story, "The Body," by Stephen King, STAND BY ME follows four boys as they set out on a life-changing adventure. Featuring a memorable performance by the late River Phoenix, as well as perfect turns by every member of a remarkable young cast (including Jerry O' Connell, Kiefer Sutherland, and John Cusack)
Film fans won't want to miss our screening of STAND BY ME at the beautiful Orinda Theatre on Thursday July 14 at 7p.m. As always, admission is free, so please arrive early to find parking and first come first serve seating. Our friends at Republic of Cake will provide cupcakes as prizes for our pre-show trivia contest!
