Free Movie: DIE HARD
The movie that made Bruce Willis a movie star screens for free on April 14 in Orinda. RIP Alan Rickman.
Our free movie in April always shows up on top of every list of Greatest Hollywood Action Films. It's Die Hard, the 1988 blockbuster that launched Bruce Willis from likable TV wiseacre (remember Moonlighting?) to legitimate movie star. But I picked this one less for Willis and more for the late, great Alan Rickman, who also became a movie star with his wickedly funny turn as terrorist villain Hans Gruber. Rickman passed away in January, just as we were picking the list of movies to show in 2016.
I remember seeing Die Hard three or four times in the theater during its original run, and I don't think that I have seen it since, so I'm looking forward to watching a remastered print on the big screen at the Orinda Theatre. This is the kind of over-the-top movie that demands the big screen treatment, as well as a gung ho audience who knows when to cheer.
We'll be showing Die Hard at 7 p.m. on April 14. As always, we draw big crowds for these free movies, so its a good idea to arrive early to find parking and secure your seats (seating is first come, first served). Our friends at Republic of Cake will be making special Die Hard cupcakes as prizes for the trivia contest we do before every Classic Film Series screening.
See you at the movies!
