Pete's Popcorn Picks: Bob Dylan plays two at the Greek; Gable plays the Paramount

Also, the Oakland Independent Film Festival comes to the Grand Lake Theater and the Cerrito gets its food groove back

Bob Dylan plays two shows at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley: I am so psyched to get back to the Greek Theatre, a venue I have been to only once in 2009 (Counting Crows) to see both Bob Dylan shows this weekend. Saturday night's show is sold out, but I think there's still some tickets left for Sunday. I caught Bob's show with Willie Nelson in South Lake Tahoe a few months ago, and Bob was looking and sounding great. He's been playing a number of songs from his 2009 album Together Through Life

It Happened One Night at the Paramount: If you're looking for a great night out at the movies—cheap—the Paramount in Oakland continues its classics series with Frank Capra's It Happened One Night on October 9. Five bucks gets you a full night out at the magnificent theater. If you can't make it on October 9, fear not, the Stanford theatre in Palo Alto just released its Fall schedule, and they'll be showing the Clark Gable/Claudette Colbert classic October 25-26.

Did you see Sully's cameo in Michael Moore's latest movie? It's hard to say I enjoyed Michael Moore's latest documentary, Capitalism: A Love Story, as it contained more infuriating material than comedic. But its a pretty remarkable film, with lots of information to chew on. And Danville's Chesley Sullenberger, the hero pilot who landed a plane in the Hudson earlier this year, has a fantastic cameo in a section about the low pay of airline pilots. I've been a fan of Moore since 1989's Roger and Me, which I saw in a small theater in San Diego and then walked into the lobby and ran into ... Michael Moore. He was there to talk to people about the film, and I fgound him to be a very bright and engaging guy—and I've enjoyed watching his evolution as a filmmaker and muckracker ever since..

The Cerrito gets its food groove back. As a West County resident, I've been thrilled that the one-of-a-kind Cerrito Theater is up and running again. Hopefully the Parkway will come back soon as well. Just last weekend, the Cerrito re-opened it kitchen, so you can enjoy pizza and salads and other foods beyond popcorn, while enjoying such movies as Capitalism: A Love Story,  Mike Judge's comedy Extract (loved it!) and The Hurt Locker (still my pick for the best of 2009).
