We Love the Nightlife: December 20–27

Join the last few holiday-themed pub crawls in Danville and Pleasanton; Schubros opens a taproom; Triple Rock’s expansion plans; and more nightlife happenings.

Is it time for a drink yet? If you’re anything like me, the holidays are less merry, more frantically running around trying to wrap up the Christmas shopping you said you’d finish two weeks ago. You deserve a drink. Here’s a few weekend events to slake your thirst, plus news of upcoming bars and releases you can enjoy in the new year.

Pint Night at Handles Gastropub
Stop by Handles in Pleasanton tonight for a pint night featuring Widmer. Sample the Nelson Imperial IPA, Rotator IPA, Milk Stout, and Old Embalmer Barleywine. Fun starts at 6 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 6 p.m., 855 Main St., Pleasanton, event website.

Sweat Eddy
Oh don’t you worry, the bar crawls aren’t done yet. On Saturday, head down to Norm’s Place in Danville for the fourth annual Sweaty Eddy and Santa pub crawl. Come dressed in an ugly sweater or holiday attire and stumble your way between Elliott’s (dead to me since it removed Buck Hunter), That Bar, Primo’s, Norm’s Place, Meenar, and Tower Grille. Festivities kick off at 7 p.m. at Norm’s, followed by Christmas carols and an ugly sweater contests at 10 p.m. Buy tickets in advance for $30, or bring $35 in cash between 6 and 7 p.m. the day off for a crack at the action. Tickets include five drinks. Saturday, December 22, 7 p.m., 356 Hartz Ave., Danville, event website.

12 Bars of Christmas
Speaking of crawls, was I the only one that didn’t know some kind hearted soul organizes a festive bar crawl through downtown Pleasanton? According to Life In Pleasanton, a crowd of people gathers and attempts to visit every watering hole on Main Street over the course of ten hours. Does anyone actually do all 12? The stops include Haps, Lokanta, Oasis, and many many more. Bless your livers, everyone. Saturday, December 22, 4 p.m. Starts at The Wine Steward, 641 Main St., Pleasanton, event website.

Nido gets boozier
East Bay Dish brings news of a fun new acquisition over at Nido, specifically a brand spankin’ new cocktail license. It arrived last week, and the team has wasted not time in getting a cocktail program up and running. Starting with margaritas, the plan is to add new cocktails every week. 444 Oak St., Oakland, nidooakland.com.

Schubros' under-construction taproom

Schubros adds a taproom
Fans of the Schubros’ suds may soon have an official place to taste them. According to Danville Patch, the new taproom is set to open before the new year, and the public is welcome to come test it out in the meantime. The tasting room will start with four taps, eventually expanding to ten, and will also include an LED flatscreen and growlers for purchase. 12893 Alcosta Blvd., San Ramon, website.

Triple Rock expands
It probably won’t be until at least 2014, but East Bay Beer tips thirsty East Bay citizens that Berkeley’s Triple Rock has plans to expand into the empty lot next door. Triple Rock will share the space with its engineering firm neighbors. 1920 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley, website.

Elvis is in the building
Concord’s Ale Industries just released This is the Shit that Killed Elvis, a decidedly un-PC brew from the barrels and uniquities department. The beer has a strong red tint with fruit and berry notes. Next up from the department? The team is currently sourcing ingredients for a blue IPA. Electric! 975 Detroit Ave., Concord, website.
