Bah, Humbug Holidays

The nativity scenes, the menorahs, the twinkling lights . . . you just aren’t feeling it. Here are some alternative holiday events to put on your radar.

RUN FROM THE FUN

For the Bah Humbug 5K in San Ramon, runners are encouraged to dress in costume. But you don’t have to go all Santa: The Most Grinch-Like category has your name all over it. Blaze past competitors, burn off some preholiday calories, and leave with a free T-shirt and ornament. December 6, San Ramon, $35, sanramon.ca.gov/parks/events/races.htm.

DROWN IN YOUR DRINK

Don your ugliest Christmas sweater, and head to Martinez for the annual Santa Crawl. Sample more than 20 craft beers from local breweries, including Creek Monkey Tap House and Pyramid. You don’t even have to worry about driving: Take the free shuttle from North Concord BART. December 13, Martinez, $25–$35, santabeercrawl.com.

SHIRK TRADITION

Take photos with the Festivus pole, air your grievances, peruse the regifting table, and watch Bay Area comedians perform at Bunjo’s Comedy Lounge—now located inside Vito’s Express pizzeria—in honor of Festivus, a parody holiday featured on Seinfeld and growing in popularity ever since. December 23, Dublin, $12, bunjoscomedy.com.
