Cheap Eats: Mona’s Burgers and Shakes
Treat yourself to a “screw diet” burger paired with a tasty milkshake.
Why Come? Mona’s is an independently owned fine-dining hamburger joint, with a creative menu (including entrée salads), beer on tap, wine by the glass, and milk shakes that will knock your socks off.
What’s the atmosphere like? A handsome charcoal gray dining area is adorned with, naturally, the Mona Lisa. The table service is unexpectedly classy, but you can also order at the counter and/or eat outside.
What to order? Go for broke, and pair an old-fashioned milk shake with the “screw diet” burger (bacon and fried egg), or the blue cheese topped and beer-sauced drunken burger. There are plenty of healthful options, but we relished Mona’s rich barbecue burger, and the truffle burger won bragging rights.
How much? Burgers, sandwiches, and salads run $8 to $11.
When is it open? Lunch and dinner daily.
Where is it? 1574 Palos Verdes Mall, Walnut Creek, (925) 278-1415, monasburgers.com.
