While hiking one day, Danya Stehr and Pam Lewerenz, friends and unofficial “sisters” for 25 years, put their heads together and decided to turn their passion for the beautiful and unique into something special. The result? Gypsea Bungalow, a tucked-away Lafayette boutique with clothing, accessories, and home goods from under-the-radar and cult brands.
A total escape. The shop is airy, open, and filled with beachy-chic, simple pieces with a boho edge. An outdoor patio invites you to relax and stay for a while. “It’s like a hidden gem you discover on vacation that you wish you had at home—a destination that you could easily return to,” says Stehr.
Whether you’re Tahoe or Thailand bound, pack up a Truffle bag ($32–$46) with necessities. Available in multiple sizes—including a TSA–approved pouch—the bags’ clear, wipeable surfaces, leather details, and modern hardware prove they’re functional and fashionable. Fill with a travel-sized Kai perfume rollerball ($48).
Just Right for Night
“We’re always editing and evolving to make sure everything is versatile, effortless, and on trend,” says Lewerenz. Case in point: the gold cuff bracelets ($255–$298) by San Francisco jewelry designer Margaret Elizabeth. Pair them with a T-shirt and jeans, or with an evening gown. The hand-crafted Morgan Parish Ranch Tote ($580) in buttery, rich leather has equal day-to-night flexibility.
Top-notch service. “We text customers photos of items they see on our Instagram account, and have had items ready and gift wrapped at a moment’s notice for an all-important luncheon,” says Lewerenz. 3413-B Mt. Diablo Blvd., Lafayette, (925) 310-4201, gypseabungalow.com.
