Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur

When it came to creating the main character for Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur, in theaters November 25, animators at the Emeryville studio were faced with a challenge: how to create stylized movements for a large dinosaur.
“The problem, of course, was that our subject hasn’t been on Earth for 65 million years,” says Animator Kevin O’Hara.
Needing a stand-in, Pixar’s animators took a field trip to the Oakland Zoo to inspire the locomotion for Arlo, The Good Dinosaur’s hero.
“We realized that elephants are probably the closest point of reference,” says Directing Animator Rob Thompson. “It was a very helpful experiment.”
